Here's the basic route for our island hopping tour, which typically lasts for seven days, starting on a Sunday & finishing the following Saturday.

Depending on the time of year we may be able to create personalised touring itineraries, based in our standard routes.

Day 1

Your adventure starts on a Sunday.

Meeting at the west coast port of Ardrossan, our first ferry of the tour takes us to the Isle of Arran.

Arran is described by many as Scotland in miniature and to be sure, it is indeed a magical place.

A leisurely time is spent following the coast road around the island stopping off for lunch on route to our overnight accommodation, all the while simply enjoying the beauty of the place .

Day 2

Today we will be travelling around the Clyde and Sound of Bute.

We will be riding within the Trossachs National Park for most of the time on quiet, sometimes single track roads.

Lunch will be on the Isle of Bute before heading back to the main land and returning to the previous night's accommodation for a second night. We will have had five ferry trips today!

Day 3

For those that are up early enough, we can take the first ferry of the day onto the Isle of Gigha, to get a brief glimpse of what a very small island community co-op looks like, the island is now owned by the residents.

Returning to the mainland after an hour or so, we head north for Oban, collecting those who may have chosen not to experience Gigha as we ride north.

From Oban after lunch, the ferry onto the Isle of Mull is our next. Once on the island we will have the chance to visit Duart Castle, the one we spotted whilst on the ferry.

There is also the chance to try the small steam train at Craignure, the only one on any of the islands, if you prefer.

Alternatively you may decide to try and seek out the rare Sea Eagle and Golden Eagle, often seen at the southern end of the island, before making to our hotel.

Day 4

For those who wish, weather and tides permitting, we can get up early and head off to catch the ferry to the Isle of Iona for a brief visit before returning to collect those who felt a longer spell in bed was more inviting. We will then head for Tobermory as our lunchtime destination.

This small but busy island port is famous for it's brightly coloured buildings on the waterfront, and for those with a sweet tooth, there is also the Tobermory Chocolate Factory to sneak into. Tobermory is also becoming world famous as a result of the children's stories shown on TV, called Balamory.

From here the next ferry takes us back to the mainland and a chance to visit the most westerly point of mainland Britain, the Ardnmurchan Light House.

After the necessary photo call, east is our direction and into the wild and beautiful area of Moidart.

Here the roads are in the main single track and twisting, presenting you with constant surprises and amazing views over to the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna. On a clear day you will be able to see the distant mountains of the Isle of Skye as well.

After the winding roads of the afternoon, our overnight destination will allow us to unwind in peaceful surroundings.

Day 5

From Mallaig, our next ferry takes us onto the world famous Isle of Skye. Our journey is over the south easterly part of the island.

Depending on the weather, we will either sail over the short stretch of water to Glenelg or take the controversial Skye Bridge back to the mainland.

Once on the mainland we pass by the amazing Eilean Donan castle, en-route to our lunch time stop in the beautiful area of Loch Carron.

Refreshed, we head off to Ullapool for the late afternoon ferry over the Minch to the Isle of Lewis, the largest of the Outer Hebridian Islands.

As the arrival time is dictated by the ferry company, we make straight for our hotel in Stornoway a few minutes from the ferry terminal for a comfortable evening meal in the hotel possibly followed by a leisurely late evening walk around the largest town of these Islands.

Day 6

Heading south we visit the Standing Stones at Callanish, reputedly over 4000 years old, possibly even older than Stonehenge, after which we continue south towards the adjoining Isle of Harris.

The ferry from Leverburgh takes us to the Isle of Beneray, the new causeway is crossed taking us to the Uists and Benbecula.

Day 7

Up in time to board the ferry leaving Lochboisdale for the cruise back to Oban.

Plenty of time to enjoy the scenery of the passing islands, if lucky spotting dolphins and whales as well as the countless sea birds. Upon entering the Sound of Mull you will be able to see Tobermory from a different viewpoint as we sail on towards Oban.

Arriving there early afternoon, this sadly is where we say Farewell.

Day 8 (Optional)

For those that feel they cannot get enough of the quiet life, a day on Barra will seal the week.

We will catch the new ferry from Eriskay to the Isle of Barra on Saturday morning.

Although small, it is perfectly formed and has plenty to see and do for your final day, including the novel sight of a regular airline service landing on a beach as the runway!

We may spend our last night recounting the weeks sights before retiring for the night in our hotel overlooking the sea.

Sunday morning will see us joining the ferry bound for Oban from where we will say farewell.
